Tropical AgTech Conference June 22-23, 2022
The first annual Tropical AgTech Conference is less than a month away.
We've assembled a world class program of AgTech innovators and technologists from around the world to come to Hilo and explain their technologies and explore how they can be applied in the Tropics.
The Conference will feature speakers from Europe, Japan, New Zealand, California and Hawaii. Experts in modern breeding technology, digital AgTech and Climate Smart Technologies will speak. USDA and USAID will be represented. It will be an excellent networking event.
AgTech currently focuses on large-scale production while 80% of food consumed globally
comes from small-scale farms (~5 acres). Technology solutions are needed to support these small farms. The majority of global hunger is found in the tropics. This situation is expected to worsen as climate change progresses. We will help develop creative, technology-based solutions that increase productivity and efficiency for smallholder farms in the tropics. Innovations must be climate-smart, farmer-friendly to solve systemic problems in the tropics.
Hawaii can play a critical role in providing solutions around the world. Hawaii is an ideal platform for incubating Tropical AgTech ideas and solutions given our climate, our research and development capacity, and our unique natural resources. Hawaii can be a leader for stimulating agricultural technologies for the tropics and providing solutions to increase food production to help feed the 3.7 billion people living in the tropics.
