The Kohala Center - Hoa'aina Stewardship Experiences
Community members of all ages are invited to join in the 2024 Hoaʻāina Stewardship Experiences! Registration is now open for Saturday, March 16 at Niuliʻi Kohala, 9am to 1pm.
These guided, half-day learning journeys are designed to deepen our pilina (relationships) with Kohala's natural and cultural landscape, create space for meaningful exchanges between place and people, and share in mālama ʻāina (care for the land) in this moku we call home.
The Hoaʻāina Stewardship Days in Niuliʻi take place on ʻāina gifted to The Kohala Center in 2016. Participants will meet and get to know Ohiohikupua (lauhala) and the ulu hala (hala groves) of Niuliʻi, building foundational skills of hana lauhala (working with and caring for lauhala), and ulana lauhala (lauhala weaving) to perpetuate these traditional practices and strengthen pilina between ʻāina and kānaka.
To make the event safe for all, space is limited to no more than 20 participants. Details on where to meet and what to bring will be provided in the days leading up to the event.
