A culinary class at Kohala High changed everything for Kamaile Gusman. “I realized food, cooking, and baking just makes me happy,” she says. “It’s as simple as that.”

Today, thanks to you, she’s a cook at the Kukio Beach and Golf Club. Kamaile graduated from the culinary program at Hawai‘i Community College’s Pālamanui campus, along with other rising stars in Hawai‘i Island’s culinary scene, aided by your contributions to the ACF Kona Kohala Chefs Association and Jean Hull Endowment.

You empowered local students for 31 years through our Dining with the Chefs fundraiser. When COVID-19 put the annual event on hold, you steadfastly continued your support, providing more than $20,000 in scholarships each year. Although a labor shortage in 2022 means another delay before our event returns stronger than ever, help is on the way.

Your tax-deductible gift prepares the next wave of students to enter our local hospitality industry—students like Kamaile, who says, “I love the people I work with. I love the environment, and that’s the spark for me.”

To make a secure gift by credit card, visit: giving.uhfoundation.org/funds/12712602.

Donors will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible gift from the UH Foundation.

Thank you for keeping the spark alive on Hawai‘i Island.
