• Member Spotlight: Sustainable Island Products Launches New Cups for a Cause Program

    May 17, 2018
KAILUA-KONA – Sustainable Island Products has launched a program titled, Cups for a Cause. This program will highlight Non-Profit Organizations in our community that are working hard to help our islands with environmental or social causes. Sustainable Island Products will donate $2000 to each organization from the sale of these specially designed cups.

“We are excited to launch this new program!” said Elizabeth Elkjer of Sustainable Island Products. “It’s something that has been in the works for over a year and to finally have the first round of cups in the hands of our customers and consumers is an incredible feeling.”

Sustainable Island Products plans to highlight different organizations biannually by creating designs that exemplify each organizations’ cause. The designs will be printed on 12 oz and 16 oz clear compostable cups. The first edition features the ‘Ohi‘a Lehua blossom and raises funds and awareness for the Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death Strategic Response Plan UH Foundation Fund.

“We are always humbled by community members who reach out with a drive to help save our ‘Ohi‘a trees and forests,” said Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death (ROD) Educational/Outreach Specialist at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Corie Yanger. “Sustainable Island Products was an early supporter of the Rapid ‘Ohi‘a Death Working Group’s efforts and we are so grateful to John, his family, and the SIP ‘ohana for designing and selling these lehua cups to help raise awareness about this terrible disease and contribute to our research and education work.”

Sustainable Island Products is a family owned and operated company that distributes compostable packaging for the food service industry throughout the state of Hawaii.
