Malama Kai Foundation’s September ReefTalks (a monthly lecture series on ocean conservation) coincides with World Manta Day, observed annually on September 17. Malama Kai Foundation is pleased to welcome Keller Laros, co-founder of Manta Pacific Research Foundation, who will discuss Kona's resident manta ray population and the research efforts underway to support their conservation.
Malama Kai Foundation will also be presenting at the official World Manta Day Celebration hosted by OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa on Saturday, September 12. They invite you to join them for this free, family-friendly event honoring one of Hawaii's most remarkable marine species.
Guest Speaker Bio:
Keller Laros is a professional scuba instructor, ocean advocate, and co-founder of the Manta Pacific Research Foundation in Kona, Hawai‘i. With over 15,600 logged open water scuba dives and more than 500 scuba certifications issued, he has dedicated his career to manta ray research, marine conservation, and sustainable ocean tourism. Keller helped secure legal protection for manta rays in Hawai‘i in 2009 and gained global recognition for rescuing an entangled dolphin. His lifelong mission: to educate, inspire, and protect the ocean and its wildlife.

Park in any stalls on the north side of the building, just down from the entrance. A few handicapped and additional stalls are located on the other side of the building — please reserve these for our kūpuna and guests with limited mobility.
The Thirsty Gecko Tasting Room entrance will be clearly marked on the Brew Block facing side of the brewery. The ReefTalk will take place upstairs, accessible by stairs or elevator. Restrooms are also located on that floor in the hallway.
