Working to make homelessness on Hawaiʻi Island rare, brief, and nonrecurring.
HOPE operates 8 shelters across Hawaiʻi Island. We prioritize shelter on vulnerability and need.
Referrals are conducted through outreach services and placed on a waitlist.
We prioritize placement for shelter based on vulnerability and need.
We accept service/therapeutic animals into the shelter with proper documentation. One vehicle per participant will be allowed on the property with up-to-date: registration, safety check, and insurance in the name of the participant.
Cot sleeping is based on availability for up to 7 seven days. Check-in time is 7 pm and check-out is at 7 am the following morning.
Shelter is temporary, and our goal is to quickly get you on a pathway to housing so you can move into your own space as soon as possible.

HOPE is a proud member of Community Alliance Partners (CAP), a Continuum of Care made up of over 40 organizations and allies using a Housing First approach to house and provide follow-up services to our houseless neighbors islandwide.
CAP implemented a Coordinated Entry System (CES) in 2017. This ensures that those who need housing the most receive the first available units. A CES is mandated by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and it streamlines the processes for assessing and offering homeless programs and housing. The CES also provides information about service needs and gaps to help communities plan their assistance and identify needed resources.
