Hirono Announces 14 Hawaii Community Health Centers to Receive Nearly $32 Million from American Rescue Plan to Expand COVID-19 Response and Vaccine Access for Underserved Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) announced that 14 community health centers across Hawaii would receive a total of $31,969,250 from the American Rescue Plan to expand COVID-19 vaccine access for at-risk and hardest-hit communities, and provide more testing, treatment, and preventative care. The funds will also allow health centers to expand their capacity to provide care by modifying and improving existing structures, and adding mobile units. The Department of Health and Human Services is expected to deliver funding to the health centers starting in April.

“I voted to pass the American Rescue Plan because the coronavirus pandemic necessitates federal resources to assist our local communities. Now, Hawaii community health centers will be able to use these federal funds to continue to provide critical health care services to communities across our state. I remain an advocate for fully funding community health centers, so that health centers can continue their work,” Senator Hirono said.
