The County of Hawaiʻi encourages residents and businesses to report damage to their properties from the Friday evening earthquake in South Kona.
These damage reports will assist the County with identifying priorities and focusing resources if state or federal disaster assistance becomes available. Damage reports can be submitted to Civil Defense at the following links:

“This earthquake was widely felt across Hawaiʻi Island, and we encourage anyone who may have been impacted to check your homes and businesses for damage, including to utilities,” said Mayor Kimo Alameda. “Our staff at Civil Defense are waiting to receive your reports and our crews will be conducting on-site assessments to collect more data. Remember to stay safe, stay connected, and use all necessary caution when inspecting your property, especially around gas and electrical lines.”
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude-6.0 earthquake occurred at 9:46 p.m. Friday near Hōnaunau-Nāpōʻopoʻo.
Temporary road closures occurred due to rockslides and debris on areas of Highway 11, Nāpōʻopoʻo Road and Miloliʻi Road. All roads are now open. Be aware that debris piles may still be on the side of the roads until they can be completely removed.
Clean Up and Damage Assessments
If the earthquake was felt in your area, check your home or business for damages, including to utility lines. Contact your utility provider if needed.
Use all necessary caution when inspecting your property, including around utilities, such as gas and power lines.
Contact your insurance provider and document any damage.
If repairs are needed, contact a licensed and professional contractor.
