KAILUA-KONA, HI – Hawai‘i Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Keiko M. Mercado to its Supervisory Committee, effective June 1, 2026.
Mercado currently serves as Assistant Housing Administrator for the County of Hawai‘i Office of Housing and Community Development. Born in Hilo and raised in Volcano, she is a graduate of Waiākea High School and the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo. Throughout her career in public service, Mercado has worked to strengthen relationships between government, community organizations, and residents across Hawai‘i Island.
In her current role, Mercado oversees programs funded through federal, state, county, and philanthropic sources, with responsibilities that include regulatory compliance, financial and programmatic reporting, audit oversight, and internal controls. Her experience managing complex oversight systems and ensuring accountability will bring valuable perspective to HCFCU's Supervisory Committee.
The Supervisory Committee serves as an independent oversight body that helps protect the interests of credit union members. Acting on behalf of the membership, the committee oversees audits and reviews of financial records and operations, monitors internal controls, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and reports its findings to the Board of Directors. The committee also investigates member complaints and ethical concerns when necessary.
"Keiko brings extensive experience in compliance, accountability, and public service," said HCFCU President and CEO Tricia Buskirk. "Her background in overseeing complex programs and her commitment to serving Hawai‘i Island make her an excellent addition to
our Supervisory Committee. We are pleased to welcome her to this important leadership role."
