Hawaii’s largest payroll, human resources and staffing company, has expanded to the U.S. mainland through the acquisition of OnePoint HRO, a human resources outsourcing company based in Englewood.
Altres, founded in 1969, has exclusively served Hawaii employers and employees, but now has the capability to serve clients in all 50 states after buying the Colorado-based company.
The deal was finalized in January, with Altres retaining all 20 employees at OnePoint, including the leadership. Altres plans to increase the staff in Colorado to 60 employees. As of Tuesday afternoon, three new employees have been hired.
There are currently 440 employees across the four Altres offices in Hawaii, with one on each of the state's four major islands.
"Altres up to this point has focused solely on Hawaii, so we needed a launch point into the continental United States," said Barron Guss, president and CEO of Altres, in an interview with Pacific Business News, a sister publication to the Denver Business Journal. "Rather than build it, we decided to buy it, and when we bought it, we acquired a staff with tremendous experience. We now have the capabilities to provide meaningful services on the Mainland. So, we are now reengaging with that client base, addressing their needs on the Mainland as well.”
One Point, which was founded in 1999, served clients in 29 states when it was acquired. Since the acquisition, Altres has become licensed to operate in all 50 states.
The company's physical offices remain in Hawaii and Colorado and staffs in both states share the responsibilities of serving mainland clients, Guss said.
As part of the acquisition, OnePoint's name and brand have transitioned to Altres. The way Altres and its system operates is not changing, but its clients’ access to human resources administration services is expanding.
“The clients of OnePoint are getting access to better technology and more robust services,” Guss said. “For Hawaii clients, it's access to Altres across the nation.”
Altres started as a staffing company, but has expanded to do industrial and clerical staffing, medical staffing, human resources outsourcing, payroll and related technology.
Altres developed a proprietary human resources information system called HR Symphony that is designed to help employers manage their business on a single platform rather than juggling disparate systems. Through the acquisition, OnePoint’s clients gain access to HR Symphony.
