    Job Description

    Soil Plus is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Dump Truck Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of heavy-duty dump trucks, slip-in trailer systems, delivery vehicles, and yard equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic dump systems, commercial truck maintenance, and the ability to diagnose and solve mechanical issues efficiently.

    This role is critical to keeping our delivery operations running smoothly and ensuring our drivers have safe, reliable equipment. A key part of this position is the ability to efficiently source parts and minimize downtime—especially important given the logistical challenges of working on an island.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty dump trucks and delivery vehicles (diesel engines)

    • Service and repair hydraulic dump systems and slip-in trailer mechanisms

    • Maintain and repair crushers and power screeners used in aggregate processing operations

    • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues

    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections

    • Maintain accurate service logs and inspection reports

    • Order parts and manage inventory to minimize equipment downtime

    • Perform brake repairs, steering system adjustments, and fluid changes

    • Test drive trucks before and after repairs to ensure proper operation

    • Ensure all repairs comply with DOT safety standards and manufacturer specifications

    • Support drivers with roadside assistance or minor on-site repairs when needed

    • Maintain clean and organized shop environment

    Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks or commercial vehicles

    • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems

    • Working knowledge of dump truck operations and heavy vehicle mechanics

    • Ability to diagnose issues using computerized diagnostic equipment and technical manuals

    • Valid Hawaii driver's license with clean driving record

    • Ability to operate heavy equipment and test drive commercial vehicles

    • Strong organizational and communication skills

    • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

    • Comfortable working outdoors and in shop environments with noise, diesel exhaust, and dust

    • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding work

    • ASE certification or diesel mechanic certification preferred

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 5+ years of experience with heavy equipment or dump truck maintenance

    • Experience with slip-in trailer systems or similar specialized equipment

    • Welding experience

    • CDL (Commercial Driver's License)

    • Own tools

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs

    • Ability to work on ladders and step up/down from truck cabs (step heights up to 22 inches)

    • Good balance and agility for working on and around heavy equipment

    • Ability to reach from ground level to 72+ inches above ground•Comfortable working in outdoor conditions including heat, noise, and dust

    Work Environment:

    • Primary work conducted in shop facility with some outdoor work

    • Exposure to diesel exhaust, noise, dust, and hydraulic fluids

    • Work around heavy machinery and moving vehicles

    • Drug-free workplace with pre-employment and random drug testing

    Pay:
    $35-$55/hr DOE
