Accountant – Part Time, 24 hours/week (Waimea, Hawai‘i Island)
The Kohala Center’s accountant is responsible for supporting the finance and accounting department’s day-to-day functions. In addition to partnering within the department, the accountant will also work closely with managers and staff. This position assists with annual organizational audits (including single audits) and performs accounting and bookkeeping functions such as double-entry accounting (debits, credits) and reconciliations, chart of accounts, trial balance, and balance sheets. Soil Technician – Full Time (All of Hawai‘i Island)
The soil technician works directly with the Hawai‘i-based agricultural project partners of the USDA Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities grant. This position is responsible for assisting with the onboarding of producers, including the verification of eligibility, implementing baseline soil health and greenhouse gas sampling, and data entry into the Natural Resource Data Solutions software (NRDS) for multiple agroforestry and orchard producers throughout Hawai‘i Island. Kohala Mālama ‘Āina Specialist – Full Time
(Moku o Kohala, Hawai‘i Island)
The Kohala mālama ʻāina specialist is responsible for strengthening pilina with ‘āina across cloud and coastal forests in the moku of Kohala. The mālama ʻāina specialist holds kuleana for supporting Kohala’s native forest ecosystems by turning ancestral knowledge and place-based research into daily ‘āina-based preservation and propagation practices. This work is based across multiple stewardship sites including the native cloud forests of Kohala Mountain, the dryland and mesic forests of Kawaihae, and the coastal forest and hala groves of Niuliʻi. Kohala Nānā‘āina Data Technician – Full Time
(Moku o Kohala, Hawai‘i Island)
The Kohala nānāʻāina data technician is responsible for developing an intimate understanding of the needs of ʻāina from ma uka to ma kai in the moku of Kohala. The nānāʻāina technician is proficient in data collection and analysis, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Global Positioning System (GPS); possesses a working knowledge of conducting vegetation surveys and water quality monitoring in forest settings; and has experience engaging in forest preservation or restoration field work in Hawaiʻi. Aloha Ambassador – Casual (Kahalu‘u Bay, Hawai‘i Island)
Aloha Ambassadors assist with the administration of a Visitor Parking Fee Project for non-Hawai‘i residents, greet visitors to Kahalu‘u Bay and Beach Park, and provide education on respectful behaviors and information about the bay’s cultural and natural resources. All parking fee revenues support ongoing stewardship, outreach, research, and education at the bay, made possible through our partnership with the County of Hawai‘i. Learn more→
