KEYNOTE SPEAKER: HENK ROGERS
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is proud to present Henk Rogers as our keynote speaker at the Annual Membership and Installation Luncheon on June 29, 2018 at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
Henk Rogers is an activist, visionary and entrepreneur whose many passions include environmental protection, human colonization of the Moon, and technology innovation.
Henk is the founder and chairman of Blue Planet Foundation, whose mission is to lead Hawaii’s transition to clean energy. His tireless efforts helped pave the way for Hawaii to enact a policy that calls for electric utilities throughout the state to rely on 100% renewable energy by 2045.
Henk is also the founder and chief executive officer of Blue Planet Energy, one of the leading providers of energy storage systems (i.e., batteries) that power homes, businesses and utility grids. The company’s groundbreaking technology is advancing the state of the art for the safety, reliability and energy output of battery systems.
Apart from his environmental work, Henk is the founder of the International MoonBase Alliance, which has brought together the most prominent, progressive and ingenious scientists, futurists, engineers and business people from the private sector, government agencies, universities, and research labs to make space colonization a reality.
Henk is also proud to serve as chairman of the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES), a nonprofit organization working to bring the business of space exploration to Hawaii. HI-SEAS, a Mars-like habitat on Mauna Loa that NASA uses as a research facility, is one of PISCES’s most prominent projects.
Despite his many philanthropic endeavors, Henk is perhaps best known as the founder and chief executive officer of Blue Planet Software, which owns the worldwide rights to the Tetris franchise. Tetris is one of the most popular video games in history, with more than 35 million units sold for the Nintendo Game Boy alone.
Prior to his tremendous success with Tetris, Henk was a pioneer in Japan’s fledgling computer game industry in the 1980s. He led the development of Japan’s first-ever role playing game (RPG), Black Onyx, and he is known in Japan as “the father of RPG.”
Raised in Holland until age 11, Rogers spent his teen years in New York City. He went on to study computer science at the University of Hawaii. He currently resides in Hawaii with his wife, and they spend as much time as possible with their beautiful children and grandchildren.
