Executive Director Message: Embracing the Present Moment

Last Friday, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce celebrated past achievements while looking forward to the future at the Annual Membership and Installation Luncheon held at the Four Seasons Resort Hualālai.

With over 250 attendees, this sold-out event was filled with Chamber and community members enjoying a delicious meal while hearing a message from Governor David Ige, witnessing the installation of the Chamber board members, and cheering for SBA and Pūalu award winners.

As the new Executive Director, I had the privilege of assisting with the SBA awards and announcing the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Pūalu Awards. After working with many of these people and organizations as a Chamber staff member and knowing many from my years in this community, I had a strong sense of what these people had done to get to that moment in time. And, when they came on stage to receive their awards, we were there to help them embrace the present moment with leis, plaques, and hugs as the audience cheered. Congratulations to well deserving, dedicated members of our community!

Our Chamber members are very busy people Wendy-Laros-at-podiumwith full lives whether with daily work responsibilities, volunteer service, or with families. However, I believe it’s important to occasionally take time to pause, take a deep breath, and look around.

Taking time to reflect, evaluate, and appreciate what has led us to our present moment will help us immensely as we move forward in thoughtful and productive ways.

I also had an opportunity to embrace the present moment at the Annual Membership and Installation Luncheon as I felt genuine appreciation when looking out at a sea of friendly and familiar faces. I am deeply grateful for this moment in time with the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and look to the future with excitement and joy as we work together to strengthen our local economy, promote our community, lead political action and celebrate 50 years and beyond!
