With Hawaiʻi’s 2018 legislative session underway, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is advocating for the interests of our membership with our 2018 list of legislative priorities.
We started our 2018 outreach by heading to Honolulu in January where we joined forces with the Chamber of Commerce Hawaiʻi with a walk around the state capitol to meet legislators and share priorities. We had quality face-to-face time with our Big Island elected state officials including Senator Inouye, Representative Lowen, Representative Evans, Representative Creagan, Representative Onishi and Representative Nakashima. We shared topics about airport improvements and clean energy to education and healthcare.
Back in West Hawaiʻi, we’ve met with our county leadership including Deputy Managing Director Barbara Kossow, Director of Research and Development Diane Ley, Deputy Research and Development Director Ron Whitmore and County Council members Karen Eoff and Maile David. Meetings have been scheduled with Councilman Dru Kanuha and Mayor Kim. Topics include water and wells to homelessness and taxes.
We encourage you, our Chamber members, to join us on March 15, 2018 to spend time with Mayor Kim and the County Leadership at our Focus Luncheon at the Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. This is the perfect place to hear the Mayor’s message, sit with county department heads at lunch, and ask questions to a panel of county leaders. Registration is now open.
