A Free Monthly Event Brings the Past to Life Through Hula and Storytelling Kailua-Kona, HI: Join Kupuna, Hawaiian entertainers and Kumu Hula who will bring the past to the present with mele, dance, and storytelling every month on the Friday of the Mahealani Moon (full moon) at the Hulihe’e Palace. On Friday July 12th, performers include: longtime Caretaker & Housekeeper of Hale O Na Ali’I O Hulihe’e Ben Samson Mahi, Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Cody Pueo Pata, and world renowned Kumu Hula Leimomi Ho and Halau Keali'ika'apunihonua Ke'ena A'o Hula. “Our goal for Under The Kona Moon is community binding through the art of storytelling,” says Lehua Bray, Chair of the event. About Under the Kona Moon The mission of Under the Kona Moon is to be a gathering place for Hawai?i Island ?ohana and kupuna to bring the past to life. Graced by a majestic moon, the ancient art of mele, hula, and storytelling will unveil and celebrate the past, and continue to strengthen and preserve future generations. The concept was inspired by Twilight at Kalahuipua’a at the Mauna Lani Resort. The event committee is actively seeking sponsorship and is grateful to The Hulihe'e Palace board members and staff, The Daughters of Hawaii, Danny and Anna Akaka, and many other volunteers who continue to support this project.
