Innocent Beginnings - Kamuela Philharmonic
Name: Innocent Beginnings - Kamuela PhilharmonicDate: January 26, 2020Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM HSTEvent Description:The innocence and naivety of youth is a special thing when it comes to making music. Young musicians from across the aloha state practice for hours on end, and then travel to the Island of Hawai?i to compete for a chance to perform in concert with the Kamuela Philharmonic.
Preparing and competing in our annual Madeline Schatz-Harris Youth Concerto Competition is a massive step for any musician, but our January masterworks concert raises the bar even more for the winners. From ages eight to eighteen, young musicians get the chance of a lifetime at the beginning of their young musical lives to perform on stage with a full symphony orchestra. This year, the KPO will be featuring young string musicians during the concert.
Hawai?i Island in the winter is an extraordinary place. How many locations in the world can you snow ski in the morning and then head down to some of the world?s most beautiful beaches for a swim in the ocean? Immersed in the beauty that is Hawai?i, the Kamuela Philharmonic will present a lesser-known work from the iconic Russian composer, Tchaikovsky. His first symphony, Winter Daydreams, will bring our audience to a beautiful place only possible through a live, symphonic performance. Pictures of Russian winter landscapes will come to mind as the Philharmonic brings this masterpiece to life at the Kahilu Theatre.
