IT WAS THE ‘CAT’S MEOW!’

ROARING 20’S RELIVED AT CHAMBER’S EVENING OF ELEGANCE

KOHALA COAST—The sound of lively jazz filled the air, while the aroma of gourmet food enticed guests to the numerous restaurant stations around the room.  Costumed “flappers” and dapper gentlemen enjoyed silent-era movies while sipping fine wines and brews.

The Chamber’s annual fundraiser, An Evening of Elegance, Mauna Lani After Dark, was a huge success with an estimated 200 people in attendance at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows. Period dress from the Roaring 20’s, from suspenders to sequins, were donned by many. Attendees received a complimentary souvenir etched wine glass and a feather boa and glittery headband to join in the “roaring” fun. It was not only an Evening of Elegance, but the “cat’s meow.”

Tantalizing culinary stations were located throughout the spacious Hale Hoaloha pavilion with fine wines, brews and coffee offered in the center. Vocalist and percussionist Ginai of O‘ahu took the stage with a voice and talent demonstrating why she has won so many awards. The upbeat, jazzy entertainment was showcased before and after the live auction.

Over $21,000 was raised for the Chamber during the auctions. Over 100 items, including original art and fine jewelry, were available for bidding.  Headlining the live auction items was an Alaskan cruise valued at $12,000.

A heartfelt mahalo to all those who donated time, goods, services and auction items; to the chefs, and to the restaurants and beverage purveyors.   KKCC will be announcing the 2009 date for An Evening of Elegance, Mauna Lani After Dark soon. If you missed out this year, you’ll want to be certain to mark your calendar early for the island’s premier event.
